Art Week - Equatorial Guinea, a Spanish-speaking country in Africa
In Dragonflies, we made ethnic jewellery with natural materials reflecting the methods of the Bubi, Fang and Ndowé ethnic groups, amongst others. Can you see the shark's teeth?!
In Hedgehogs, our inspiration was a painting by Leandro Mbomio Nsue (Scene of Africa, People in a Canoe, 1958). The children's individual pieces represented and celebrated the indigenous people through their link with nature, their ancestral traditions and their everyday life in the African jungle. Water and its importance was a constant feature in all of their drawings.
In Otters, we designed headdresses and masks. A fundamental part of the cultural identity and historical heritage of several ethnic groups in Equatorial Guinea, these are used for traditional ceremonies and dances and to show status.
