Autumn Term

Our Learning

Our topic for the Autumn term is 'Off with their Head!' where we will be studying Tudor England alongside Henry VIII and his six wives.

Below is our topic web and keep an eye on this page for examples of our fantastic work!

Off with their heads! A round up of our Tudor topic

In Art, we have been studying portraits of King Henry VIII. We have learned that Hans Holbein was commissioned as the king's personal portrait artist and adapted his artwork to suit the king and how he wanted to be seen.

This has inspired us to create our own self portraits and adapt them slightly to show how these changes can be misleading to others! Some children have decided to change their hair colour, eye colour or both!

We recently went on a school trip to Hampton Court Palace which we all enjoyed! We were in awe of the size of the palace and lost count of the amount of chimneys and panes of glass in the windows- a sign of Tudor wealth.

Our favourite part of Hampton Court was the grand dining hall where King Henry VIII had his elaborate feasts. This inspired us to turn our classroom into a banquet hall and Mrs Ecclefield served us Tudor food. After our feast, we all participated in  some traditional Tudor dancing!
